Poor guy. This evening (around 5pm) we had a telemarketer call from Hilton to offer us an "excellent not available to the public opportunity in Orlando!". Well as soon as I answer Caroline starts telling me she wants to say "hello" loudly and repeatedly- she likes talking on the phone. At this point I decide it is more fun to talk to guy on the phone then daughter who is yelling to say hi on the phone (Owen is happily sitting on my lap flipping through books).
-Guy asks if it is a good time and he can call back later if not.
-Explain we are working on phone manners and how she does not get to talk to everyone.
-He starts chatting asking how old kids are, etc, have we ever been to Orlando, etc.
-I keep answering all his questions (including all the "prescreen ones") even cracking a few jokes (BOTH employed? well, my husband is). Caroline eventually starts crawling in lap saying she really wants to say hi to daddy. Tell her it is not daddy.
-Guy offers to call back later.
-Oh, no. Now is fine, really.
-He gives the big sell, but have to agree right now.
-Can not commit without talking to my husband.
-We can call him right now.
-He is actually traveling today. Accidentally scratch Caroline with my watch trying to situate her around Owen. She really starts crying.
-What if I do something to really sweeten the deal so you can tell him you could not refuse? Can you hold on one second so I can talk to my manager?
-Sure. Click.
Poor guy. He even tried calling back. Did not realize till later that he probably really thought he almost had a sale.
We did get some good practice with our phone manners though.

That is so funny! Zachary is the same way about the phone - if you are no the phone, it doesn't matter who it is, he wants to say hi. He gets really upset if you don't let him talk. But then sometimes he acts all shy when someone is on the phone who we actually want him to talk to (grandparents, etc.). Crazy kids!
