Caroline's concept of time

Thought today was a great example of Caroline's inability to really grasp time. Matt is still out of town returning later tonight.

Picking up after quiet time I told Caroline daddy was already on his way home and he would be here tomorrow morning when she woke up.

C: So he will be here for snack.
M: No, it takes a long time to come home from where daddy is right now. He will be here tomorrow morning.
C: So in time for dinner.
M: Dinner AND breakfast tomorrow.
C: Well, what about tonight.
M: Nope, he will get home after you are asleep tonight.
C: Oh, so he will get home tomorrow.
M: Yes, he will be here tomorrow, but not tonight.
C: So not for dinner tonight?
M: No.
C: Maybe for bath time?
M: No, after you are asleep.
C: Maybe to read tonight.
M: No, but he will get you up tomorrow morning.
C: Really, he will get me up tomorrow?
M: Yes.
C: No, I'll get myself up in the morning.

Lovely. She understands the order of things and how to do things in the right order, i.e. if I say we can skip reading because she is "really really tired" and she can just eat dinner, take a bath and go to sleep she corrects to say put on pj's after her bath. She just doesn't understand the long term order of things - i.e. today you played with Sophie, tomorrow school friends, etc. After we do one thing she asks every day if we are going to do that again the next day.

Oh well, sorry all of this is so confusing. Thanks for listening (reading?) and all the advice and comments.
